My goal is to go as less as possible of using plastic and recycle any other waste. Not going to lie, it’s pretty challenging during pandemic. Since it started, almost every product were wrapped in plastic in shops. Was disappointed as I decided to go plastic free just before pandemic. Now we have to do different approach. Here some tips I gathered on how to live waste less.

KITCHEN:

  • Reusable cups.
  • Stainless steel straws, should come with cleaning brush.
  • Travel mug (as you can bring your own coffee or tea from home).
  • Travel silverware.
  • Bamboo tableware.
  • Mason jars.
  • Tea and coffee natural sacks.
  • Silicone/beeswax food wraps.
  • Reusable cotton bags for shopping vegetable and fruit.
  • Cotton kitchen towels.
  • Cook at home.
  • Grow vegetable and fruits at home, if possible.

COMPOST:

  • Pet fur.
  • Your hair and nail clippings.
  • Cardboard.
  • Some baking paper.
  • Plain wrapping paper.
  • Wine corks.
  • Bamboo cotton buds.
  • Cotton balls and rounds.
  • Old clothing, fabrics. As long as it’s 100% natural fibbers, like cotton, linen and naturally dyed.
  • Plant and Garden waste, cuttings and lawn clippings.
  • Post satchels, just remove labels and sticky tape).
  • Any compostable food packaging.

Some things doesn’t work very well for composting, like: Citrus fruits, tomatoes, onions, most teabags, chewing gums.

HYGIENE:

  • Soap bars.
  • Paper, bamboo or silicone ear swabs.
  • Menstrual silicone cups, sponge, cotton pads, period panties.
  • Cloth nappies.
  • Reusable razor.
  • Homemade sugar scrubs.
  • Toothpaste tabs.
  • Bamboo toothbrush.
  • Wheat straw or bamboo hairbrush.
  • Coconut oil.
  • Natural deodorant.

MULTI-PURPOSE CLEANER:

Lemon, rosemary, vinegar. Half bottle of water and half vinegar and sit it for the week and you can use it then on multiple surfaces. Plastic free dish brush, washing pad, for dishes and for around the house.

FOR A LOVELY SCENT IN YOUR HOME:

Candles – soy flakes, essential oils of your choice, wick, any glass jars, flowers/herbs.
